Teachers: Election Preparation

Preparing for Kids Voting

1. Generate Voter ID codes for students. Instructions are here.
For "Election," choose: 2024 voter IDs for Kids Voting.

2. Help students find their voting district. For younger students, you can simply use the district in which your school is located.
    • Enter home or school address here.
    • When results appear, click on State House Representative and you will see the district number.

3. Post your school's 3-letter code (below) where students will see it while voting: on laptops if you're doing a "voting booth" set-up, on the board if you're using a 1-to-1 device approach, or wherever it makes sense for your students. Student will access the ballots page here - it is in their ClassLink.

Preparing Students to Vote

1. Show students the sample ballot for their district.
    • Choose the district in which your school is located for younger students.
    • For older students, have them find their own district by entering their home address here. They should click on the State House Representative and it will give them their district number.

2. Have students learn about and practice Ranked Choice voting here.

3. Have students review one or more of the resources available to learn about the candidates.

3. For more in-depth lesson ideas on understanding our government, elections, media literacy, and more see our Educators tab or contact our Education Coordinator at education@kidsvotingnorthalaska.org.
